I offer computer and business technology consulting services in the Portland metropolitan area. I am willing to travel some and can offer a mix of onsite and vpn availability.

My core skills are in web application development, primarily database backed websites.

I can help with both design and implimentation. For design I prefer use case driven modeling which is a process that involves writing the story of how the application will be used and then transforming the story into design. I'm comforatable with the Model View Controller pattern as well as the Rational Unified Process.

I enjoy the architecture work but am happy to consider projects which are already underway.

The majority of my recent programming work has been in J2EE / Java Servlets and JSP. My formal computer science training was in C++ and my frist web projects were in Perl. I've applied many different technologies over the course of my 10 years in the industry. Indeed at the core of it all, my ability to learn and adapt is my main skill and my curiosity tends to keep me hungry for new technologies.

I'm an expert with SQL relational design and can write complex queries. Right Join? Right on! ;)

I'm comfortable with XML schema design and document type definitions (DTD). I have experience with XPath and XSLT and the Java XML utilities including Xerces, SAX and JDOM.

I have experience with developing and deploying search technologies including crawl, index and display of results. Most of this experience is with Apache Lucene and Apache Nutch.

I have deployed web advertising management systems and can help you with your advertising revenue model including pricing and improvement of ad space effectiveness.

In the past year I have begun to venture into Web 2.0 / AJAX development, mostly by utilizing Adobe's Spry toolkit. I think it's clear that this is where the web is going.

I offer systems administration services for web and database servers, particularly with the Linux distributions RedHat Enterprise, Suse Proffessional, Debian, Gentoo and Ubuntu as well as Free BSD. I am happy to offer secondary support for Solaris environments. I have deployed production Tomcat servers and Cold Fusion servers along with Apache webservers and database servers including redundancy and failover.

I can perform general network support including firewall and DMZ administration. I also have experience with LDAP, Samba, DNS and email services.

Most of my projects involve the middle tier. I often work with designers on the front end and databases or DBA's on the back end.

I enjoy computing and technology but I also enjoy the social aspects of work life as well. I'm known to be a jokester and try to be a generally positive and personable individual.

I have a technical sales background and have presented at the 'C' and corporate VP level. I have presented to groups as large as 100. I can help with proposal development and internal cost justifications.
